Milan Bergamo Airport was forced to suspend all flights on Tuesday morning, July 8, 2025, following a fatal incident in which a person was sucked into the engine of a departing aircraft. The individual, who was not a passenger or airport staff member, is believed to have trespassed onto the taxiway just as a Volotea Airbus A319 was preparing for takeoff.

Flight operations were halted at 10:20 AM due to the incident on the taxiway, and investigations are underway to determine how the trespasser managed to access the restricted area.

The accident caused significant disruptions, with several incoming flights diverted to nearby airports, including Milan Malpensa, Verona, and Bologna. Multiple outbound flights were also canceled. Passengers are advised to check flight statuses and make alternate arrangements with their airlines.
