On Friday the 8th of November 2024, a Qantas Boeing 737-800 made an emergency landing at Sydney International Airport due to a contained engine failure that occurred soon after take-off. This engine failure also caused the ignition of vegetation surrounding the active runway, causing the closure of that runway and several flights to be diverted.
